Central Government Farmer

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) — Crop Insurance

Crop insurance where you pay only 2 percent of the cover for Kharif crops, 1.5 percent for Rabi, and 5 percent for horticultural and commercial crops

This is crop insurance. If your crop is lost to drought, flood, hailstorm, pests or disease, the insurance pays you for the loss. You pay only a small part of the premium and the Central and State governments pay the rest. Farmers who have taken a crop loan and farmers who have not can both join, including tenants and sharecroppers.

Who can apply

  • Any farmer growing a notified crop, with or without a crop loan
  • Tenant farmers and sharecroppers are included
  • Loanee farmers with an active KCC loan are usually enrolled by their bank
  • Non-loanee farmers must register themselves before the season's deadline

What to take with you

  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank passbook
  • Land papers (khatauni)
  • Tenancy or sharecropping proof, if the land is not in your name
  • Sowing details for the season

How to apply

Enrol at pmfby.gov.in, through your bank branch if you have a KCC crop loan, or at the local agriculture office. Do it before the season's deadline, which for Kharif is typically the end of July.

Rejected or still waiting? Check these first

Most applications fail for a correctable reason, not because the applicant was ineligible. Before assuming you do not qualify, check each of these:

  • Aadhaar details do not match the bank account details
  • Land record is outdated or unclear
  • Enrolment deadline for the season was missed
  • Crop loss reported late — the rules require reporting within a fixed window, commonly referenced as 72 hours from the event

Still stuck after checking all of these? Tell us what happened and we will help you work out which office to approach.
